Truth must be spoken until the message is finally brought home and its impact is realised for us to act.
NOTTINGHAM: This is with reference to Osama Siddique’s piece “A society without meaningful dissent” (August 20). I am glad that more and more people are opening up and our public intellectuals are fulfilling what is basically their most important responsibility, which is to talk about deficiencies in our system, and criticise our indifference and collective failure to do what is essential to make society liveable again. While these facts could be narrated in few short sentences and the writer may have become a bit verbose in his article but then how do you shorten the long list of ailments that we suffer from? Truth must be spoken until the message is finally brought home and its impact is realised for us to act. I can only express my sense of gratitude to people like Mr Siddique with his useful and relevant diagnosis of what ails us.
