ISLAMABAD: Someone please teach the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) that blocking a road is not the same as teaching the motoring public how to drive. Nowadays, the ITP in their “Campaign for the Effective Implementation of Traffic Rules” is blocking the rightmost lane of the Islamabad Highway and other major roads.
The campaign tells motorists that the right lane on the highway or any major road with more than one lane is to be used only for overtaking. While that may be the case and this is certainly something that the motoring public should be told, how will they do this if that lane is closed by the traffic police themselves?
This step by the ITP only creates unnecessary bottlenecks in the traffic flow, especially during rush hour and has also led to several traffic accidents. At night, it is particularly dangerous since having the right lane blocked on the highway seems to be a recipe for an accident. One can only imagine how serious an accident could take place if from nowhere a driver in the fast lane suddenly finds his lane blocked. I would request the ITP to immediately remove these roadblocks.
