Would it be too much to ask that commercial establishments in Pakistan give concessions to senior citizens here?
RAWALPINDI: A friend who lives in the US was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at a restaurant and heard him ask for his senior discount. The woman at the cash register apologised and charged him less. When my friend asked the man what the discount was about, he was told that seniors over the age 65 get 10 per cent off everything on the menu at that restaurant.
This incident prompted him to do some research and he came across a large number of restaurants, and grocery, medical, retail and clothing stores all giving discounts to senior citizens. He was surprised to see just how many there were and that some began giving discounts to citizens from the age of 50.
Would it be too much to ask that commercial establishments in Pakistan give the same concession to senior citizens here? We could have a ‘silver card’ for those over the age of 55 and a ‘gold card’ for those over the age of 65 and discounts could be given proportionately.
