The best and the worst

Letter August 18, 2013
The best, of course, came out in the brave Zamrud Khan, who saved the day at the risk of his own life.

LAHORE: A crisis situation brings out the best and the worst in people. First, the worst. A political analyst pontificated, “The security of the nation’s capital and that of the prime minister’s and president’s house cannot be put at risk just to save the lives of two children.” When the gunman had been surrounded, there was no risk to the PM or the president, and shooting down the two children would have been an act of wanton murder. God save us from such blinkered analysts.

And all the others, who were criticising the police for not taking prompt action should have put themselves in the shoes of the police. The best, of course, came out in the brave Zamrud Khan, who saved the day at the risk of his own life.
