On the road to peace

Letter August 17, 2013
It is obvious for outsiders that there is conflict within Pakistan on how to address the issue.

SACRAMENTO, CA, US: This is with reference to your editorial of August 16 titled “Pakistan and India must get on the road to peace”. Peace between Pakistan and India is essential for the progress of both the countries. Pakistan cannot sustain hostility against India without damaging its economy and internal security.

The problem is that the Pakistani establishment seems to have lost control over non-state actors who have embarked on terrorism and adventurism both within Pakistan and also in neighbouring countries. The first step towards peace would be for the Pakistani government to establish internal security and control over non-state actors. It is obvious for outsiders that there is conflict within Pakistan on how to address the issue. Until this issue is resolved, there can be no peace and no need for peace talks.
