Wasting resources

Letter August 15, 2013
Various committees in the National Assembly and the Senate have also been established with little positive results.

KARACHI: This is with reference to Ejaz Haider’s piece “Ch Nisar’s Daedalian flight” (August14). Every time we are confronted with a problem, we find the solution in making new organisations with fancy buildings, lots of staff, bosses with heavy pay cheques and perks, with huge funds at their disposal and so on. A case in point is the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), which was set up after the 2005 earthquake. Eight years after its establishment, it still awaits funds that it was supposed to get. One can find similar stories with regard to Nepra, Pemra and Ogra. Various committees in the National Assembly and the Senate have also been established with little positive results and only wastage of resources.

Now, a counterterrorism organisation is going to be set up. All this reminds me of the famous story, “the Emperor’s new clothes”, where the emperor is finally stripped off all his clothes and rides through the streets looking like an idiot.
