Only thing that the national energy policy really talks about is that people should get ready to pay higher tariffs.
NOWSHERA: This is with reference to the recent approval of the National Power Policy by the new government this past week. The fact of the matter is that there is nothing in the energy policy about the reduction of corruption in Wapda, Pepco, NTDC and the various DISCOs (distribution companies). No theft or kunda connection can be made without the connivance of Wapda and DISCO employees, and it is astonishing that the policy makes no mention of this.
Massive overpayment to independent power producers (IPPs) is another reason for high tariffs but there is no mention of this in the new energy policy either. The government policy also doesn’t say what it plans to do about alleged theft of oil by generating companies and IPPs, according to various media reports. The only thing that the national energy policy really talks about is that people should get ready to pay higher power tariffs.
