Should Punjab carry Pakistan’s burden?

Letter August 02, 2013
Each part of Pakistan has a purpose and one part cannot take precedence over the other.

DAMMAM, SAUDI ARABIA: This is with reference to the article “Should Punjab carry Pakistan’s burden?” (August 2) by S Akbar Zaidi. People will probably get emotional on this topic but a good analogy for understanding is whether the heart is more important or the brain. Each organ in the body has a purpose and cannot be replaced that easily. In the same vein, each part of Pakistan has a purpose and one part cannot take precedence over the other.

What we need now is for distributing power at the grassroots level. This entails: 1) increasing the number of provinces; 2) provincial autonomy; 3) an agreeable/workable administrative system (councils, nazim, etc.).

This will help develop the various provinces and cities according to the potentials they have.
