
It is a sad comment on our nation and society that we forget our legends too early.
LAHORE: The legendary Urdu cricket commentator Muneer Hussain died in Karachi due to cardiac arrest at the age of 84. Hussain was a great contributor to Pakistan cricket. He was also the founder of the famous Urdu cricket magazine Akhbar-e-Watan. Hussain got many awards during his distinguished commentary career. He was presented the Best Urdu Commentator of the Decade Award (1985-95) and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s World Cup Legends Award presented on the tenth anniversary celebrations of Pakistan’s victory in the 1992 World Cup.
Hussain was also a great cricket analyst and wrote in Urdu newspapers for many years, as well as in Akhbar-e-Watan. It is a sad comment on our nation and society that we forget our legends too early. Urdu commentary will never be the same without Muneer Hussain. It is not only the death of a man, but the death of a magical voice, a voice which will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of Pakistani cricket fans. Rest in peace, Muneer Hussain.
