BIRMINGHAM: This is with reference to Ayesha Siddiqa’s piece “Countering terrorism” (August 1). Countering terrorism is a science and a policy cannot be formulated on it without a proper cohesive approach adopted by all impacted elements and stakeholders in Pakistan.
However, having a clear agenda is also important for countering terrorism and Pakistan lacks one. Here, the situation is totally ridiculous because this country lost over 50,000 of its citizens to al Qaeda-supported militants after 9/11 and suffered a $70 billion economic loss but is still unable to pass an antiterrorism legislation banning al Qaeda. This goes to show where our priorities lie.
