Post-colonial state and society (II)

Letter October 04, 2010
It is worth noting that to supply Nato forces in Afghanistan, Pakistan had the option of using the railways.

ISLAMABAD: Ayesha Siddiqa’s article of October 3 is very well-written and to the point. The main bread and butter of the railways is the cargo business. At this point, it is worth noting that when Pakistan was given the chance to supply Nato forces in Afghanistan, it had the option of using the railways instead of handing the opportunity over to transport firms in the private sector. Had it even set aside some of the business for the railways, the latter perhaps would not be in the dire financial situation that it finds itself in. The government needs to be asked why did it not take this decision.
