Our narrow-mindedness

Letter July 24, 2013
I think confident young women bring out worst in many of us simply because we do not know how to deal with such women.

MUMBAI: This is with reference to Noman Ansari’s article “Afia Siddiqui vs Malala Yousufzai” (July 21). I am reminded of a case somewhat similar to that of Malala Yousufzai, in which three young girls were treated in a most hostile manner in India, like Malala has been in Pakistan. A group of three schoolgirls from Kashmir started a music band and participated in some events. Some cleric passed a stricture against ‘girls performing’ and social media was full of sick insults and threats against them. The three kids (of 14 years of age or so) had to publicly announce that they are shutting shop.

I think confident young women bring out the worst in many of us simply because we do not know how to deal with such women.
