Why no apportioning of blame?

Letter July 21, 2013
The rest of the world thinks, with some justification, that we are fooling ourselves and continuing to live in denial.

LAHORE: This is with reference to Ayesha Siddiqa’s article of July 18 titled “Why jail Shakil Afridi?”. Whenever something unpleasant happens in the country, there is much hue and cry and a commission is formed. The outcome of the Abbottabad Commission has disappointed the nation. First of all, the main characters did not appear before it.

Our independence was challenged and compromised and we ended up doing nothing. As rightly mentioned in the article, the commission’s report fails to pinpoint responsibility for what happened on May 2, 2011. As a result, the rest of the world thinks, with some justification, that we are fooling ourselves and continuing to live in a state of denial. The three main actors, as mentioned above, should also appear before the commission and their testimonies should be included in the final report. Everyone should bear in mind that history does not forgive all those who are trying to hide things and protect themselves or others.
