Pervez Musharraf’s statement that the military be given a constitutional role in governance is untenable.
KARACHI: With reference to the debate for and against the government being removed, may I point out that Pervez Musharraf’s statement that the military be given a constitutional role in governance is untenable.
All over the world, countries have armies but their job – and it is a very important one – is to protect the borders. So it doesn’t make sense for the former dictator to advocate a permanent role for them. After all, haven’t we learnt from the past — what did military interventions achieve for Pakistan?
