KARACHI: The report in a foreign newspaper – and quoted in your paper as well – that the army wants the government to cleanse itself seems to suggest that things are going bad. As a voter, I would say that both the president and the prime minister must realise that they draw their power from the people and not the military, and certainly should not be worried about so-called “rising public impatience”.
It is clear that certain political actors – one could call them the establishment’s ‘B’ team – such as the PML-N and the MQM, along with certain sections of the media want the government out.
This is not to say that the government is doing a brilliant job — but that shouldn’t mean that it be dismissed or replaced. The best course would be to let it run its term out and then those who did not approve of it can vote against its constituent parties in the next general election.
