At the very least, the Court has been inconsistent in its decisions.
WAKEFIELD, RI, US: This is with reference to Waris Husain’s article of July 12 titled “Pakistan’s pro-people Supreme Court”. Does the writer mean pro-military? Or is he talking about the apex Court which seems to take action selectively? Also, the Supreme Court as an institution has provided legal cover to military coups whereas the US Supreme Court carefully interprets the law and upholds the Constitution whilst ensuring that it merely acts as a judicial body and does not dictate the economy.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court, has on more than one occasion, interfered in economic matters that concern policymakers and the executive. In particular, take the case of the previous government where the Court regularly intervened on economic issues. At the very least, the Court has been inconsistent in its decisions.
