Reprieve for Amir

Letter July 04, 2013
Amir has undergone his share of redemption, definitely deserves some concessions on part of authorities concerned.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your story “Reprieve for Amir” (July 3). I wish to state without an iota of doubt that Mohammad Amir is one of the finest cricketing prodigies Pakistan has ever produced. What remains mindboggling is that the previous dispensation at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did nothing substantial to seek reprieve for the youngster.

In this regard, the recent jaunt by interim PCB Chairman Najam Sethi merits appreciation. The dilemma which baffles me the most is that all sorts of financial and moral corruption charges against the well heeled go unnoticed. Amir has undergone his fair share of redemption and definitely deserves some concessions on the part of the authorities concerned. I hope that the newly sworn-in prime minister could issue some directives in this regard, which would not only help Amir, but would also repose the faith of many extraordinarily talented cricketers and draw them towards the sport, which runs in the blood of all Pakistanis.
