For a “humanitarian” lawyer to suggest a bartering position instead of upholding rights is anything but principled.
MELBOURNE: This is with reference to Hilary Stauffer’s article “Making good use of Snowden’s revelations” (July 4). In the article, the writer states: “ … the EU is no stranger to playing hardball when it suits its interests. It is most definitely in the Union’s interests to play hardball with the US in negotiating the TTIP.”
What sort of a deformed logic is this? Instead of taking a principled stand on the issue of bugging of the European Union’s (EU) facilities and suggesting remedial measures, Ms Stauffer effectively wants the EU to start getting a better trade deal from the US instead. For a “humanitarian” lawyer to suggest a bartering position instead of upholding the rights of privacy of the common man in the EU, which may have been compromised, is anything but principled.
