Butt’s apology

Letter July 02, 2013
Butt should forget all such notions. He is lucky to be walking as a free man in Pakistan.

TORONTO: This refers to your editorial “Butt’s admission of guilt” (June 30). It is highly shameful that Salman Butt has repeatedly shattered the trust of his supporters, countrymen and the national team, deeply damaging the very sport that brought him so much fame and wealth.

After repeatedly pleading his innocence for three years, despite being convicted and proven guilty and doing time in jail, the only apparent reason that he is “apologising” to the nation is to get a second chance at playing the sport again.

Butt should forget all such notions. He is lucky to be walking as a free man in Pakistan. He was given a rather lenient punishment by the British court. He knew full well what he was doing despite being aware of all the previous match-fixing scandals that some of his predecessors and colleagues were involved in.
