The US only wants India to help Afghanistan grow as a liberal, democratic country.
NEW YORK: This is with reference to your editorial “India and the Af-Pak question” (June 26). Indian involvement in Afghanistan is limited to its development efforts and the building of institutions in that country. So, despite the prodding of the Afghan president, India is not sending its troops to Afghanistan. The US only wants India to help Afghanistan grow as a liberal, democratic country. Pakistan can only strengthen the regressive religious conservatism prevalent in Afghanistan.
If Pakistan sheds its policy of so-called strategic depth towards Afghanistan, all the countries in the region can then fight the scourge of terrorism together.
