The media needs to air some programmes on the subject of "Money and the military."
KARACHI: This is with reference to the editorial “Money and the military” (September 24). The media needs to air some programmes on this subject which is more or less a holy cow. It is a well-known fact that the army is the strongest and most organised institution of our country. However, part of the reason for that may be that budgeting for civilian institutions tends to be lower than the defence budget – and hence the civilian infrastructure suffers. Clearly what we need is politicians who do not take their complaints to the military and ask them to intervene but instead work together to protect, promote and defend democracy in Pakistan. This may be our last chance.
