Intelligent folks on either side understand this, see virtue in the peoples of India and Pakistan getting together.
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, USA: This is with reference to Ayesha Siddiqa’s article “Making friends of enemies” (June 6). Her piece is a laudable attempt to end a meaningless feud between the two countries. Indeed, one needs to go a little deeper into the current political status of these two countries to understand why this is an opportune moment to bridge gaps. The democratic rule in both countries is still in a nascent state. Exactly who is running either country is not quite clear. From daily reports of loot, plunder, bribery, murder and rapes in both countries, it is clear that the rule of law does not exist. The electorates on both sides are largely illiterate, bound by the feudal system and are burdened with poverty. Intelligent folks on either side understand this and see the virtue in the peoples of India and Pakistan getting together. This will perhaps have a trickle-down effect and eventually, the people in power in both countries will see the advantage of pushing for peace, rather than war.
