The real power struggle

Letter June 07, 2013
Price of electricity needs to be increased but not without plugging system leaks, curbing theft and collecting bills.

KOHAT: This is in connection with the story “The litmus test: Nawaz gears up for ‘real’ power struggle” (June 7). I believe that the prime minister’s sincerity will only be useful when it is combined with truth. The harsh truth is that distribution companies are corrupt to the core. If one applies to get a new electricity connection, the hassle one has to go through clearly indicates the corruption that is present in them. The other harsh reality is that we steal electricity and those who can get away with it, do not pay their bills.

The price of electricity needs to be increased but not without plugging system leakages, curbing theft and collecting bills from everyone. The 70 per cent paying their bills should not be made to suffer and pay for the 30 per cent thieves and defaulters.
