The cold start doctrine is just as dangerous for India as it is for Pakistan.
PRESTON, ENGLAND: This is apropos the story “Countering cold start: Military to adopt new war concept” (June 4). The cold start doctrine is just as dangerous for India as it is for Pakistan. I believe it is nothing but hubris on the part of India. What might begin as an Indian cold start operation, carries a very grave risk of turning into a Pakistani ‘hot end’ operation, involving tactical short-range nuclear weapons. It will result in certain large-scale destruction in both countries before international pressure has any chance to bear on the neighbours. I do not believe Indian generals and military strategists are that suicidal.
