Not drones, economy, power & gas shortages, but religious extremism & terrorism that may prove the greatest threat.
EDINBURGH: This is with reference to Hasan Askari-Rizvi’s article “The search for a new drone policy” (June 3). The writer states: “The real test of the PML-N government is how it handles domestic problems like the faltering economy, electric power and gas shortages, internal law and order problems, especially religious extremism and terrorism.”
This, in my view, is the central idea of the article. I heartily agree with this formulation. Later in the article, however, the writer talks about economic matters and better relations with neighbouring countries, but he loses his emphasis on the need to tackle religious extremism and terrorism. It is not drone attacks, it is not economic stagnation, it is not power and gas shortages, but it is religious extremism and terrorism that may prove to be the greatest threat to Pakistan.
