We have a 5-year plan that calls for independent safety inspections and for companies to publicly report findings.
KARACHI: This is with reference to Maheen A Rashdi’s piece “The supply chain” (May 31). I work for the H&M Pakistan office. The incident of the Bangladesh factory collapse has been quite disturbing for everyone who is a part of H&M. To make things a little clear from H&M’s end, our company is among those which are pioneers when it comes to signing health and safety accords after this incident. We have a five-year plan that calls for independent safety inspections and for companies to publicly report the findings of these inspections.
After H&M, a flood of international brands also joined in, including Spanish brand Zara’s parent company Inditex, Calvin Klein and the owner of Tommy Hilfiger, PVH, along with Dutch retailer C&A and British retailer Primark. All these companies signed the agreement that promises to overhaul the way health and safety is monitored in Bangladesh.
