Reserved seats for women

Letter May 30, 2013
People should hold parties that have nominated only the relatives of their chieftains on these seats accountable.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, USA: This is in connection with the story “Women’s reserved seats: Top politicians’ spouses, kin strike it lucky” (May 30). The idea behind the law that reserves seats for women in parliament was to give all women an equal shot, not just relatives of those belonging to the ruling elite. People should hold parties that have nominated only the relatives of their chieftains on these seats accountable. Why did such parties not consider ordinary Pakistani women for these slots? In other words, the May 11 election has not changed anything. The status quo prevails.
