Dealing with militancy

Letter May 11, 2013
Why does it really matter what Imran Khan says? Everyone knows very well who makes policies in this country.

SIALKOT: This is with reference to Fasi Zaka’s article “Conviction” (May 11). The writer is forgetting that it was the PPP and the ANP which signed a peace deal with Sufi Muhammad in Swat and most of his so-called conditions were met unopposed by the government. Sufi Muhammad still violated the agreement and exposed himself completely, and hence the whole nation agreed to wipe him off the face of the earth. That is how Swat was liberated and it was the only way to do what had to be done. Otherwise, we would have had another Lal Masjid on our hands.

If Imran Khan proposes a somewhat similar approach to dealing with menace of militancy, what is wrong with it? Moreover, why does it really matter what Imran Khan says? Everyone knows very well who makes policies in this country. You heard those people thinking aloud just a few days ago.
