A national hero

Letter May 08, 2013
All political leaders, including archrival Nawaz Sharif, showed full sympathy with him, thus creating lot of goodwill.

ISLAMABAD: The whole nation was stunned at the terrible fall that Imran Khan suffered in Lahore on the night of May 7. Imran Khan is not just the head of a political party; he is also a national hero on more than one count, whether we look at the glories he achieved for the country as a cricketer, including leading the national team to a World Cup win, as well as his contribution in terms of establishing a state-of-the-art hospital and a university in the country. He has mobilised the nation and especially its youth. He is a sincere person even though he does seem to lack certain skills.

The accident that Imran suffered has been a blessing in disguise. All political leaders, including his archrival, Nawaz Sharif, showed full sympathy with him, thus creating a lot of goodwill. Credit goes to Mr Sharif and all other leaders for their generous gestures. Let us all pray for such cordial relations to prevail among rivals in the future, too, as well as for Imran’s early recovery.
