Taliban and state power

Letter May 04, 2013
Does the writer really think the US will sit back and watch Taliban take over a nuclear Muslim state of 190 million?

SIALKOT: This is with reference to Wajid Shamsul Hasan’s piece “Lest there is no one to speak for them” (May 3). I disagree with the writer’s assertion that the Taliban are about to capture state power. This suggestion is ludicrous and reflects a lack of understanding of the geopolitical framework in which Pakistan operates.

Does the writer really think that the US will sit back and watch the Taliban take over a nuclear Muslim state of 190 million? I wonder if the writer has ever exchanged notes with the likes of Ambassador Sherry Rehman, Senator Raza Rabbani and others of their ilk before talking in such a manner.
