Self-cannibalism

Letter May 03, 2013
More than 45,000 of us have died at our own hands and now we have started terminating minorities, too.

LAHORE: This is with reference to your editorial “Putting an end to bigotry” (May 2). Self-cannibalism is the practice of eating oneself. It is also called autocannibalism or autosarcophagy. Some species of snakes are famous for this practice.

The spectrum of self-inflicted violence on Pakistanis by Pakistanis reminds me of this above-mentioned practice by a species of North American snakes, which start eating their own body from the tail upwards and when they reach the body’s middle, they die. More than 45,000 of us have died at our own hands and now we have started terminating minorities, too. Soon, we will reach the middle portion. What will happen then, I wonder?
