Interim government’s stance

Letter April 23, 2013
Treason proceedings against Musharraf should be initiated through a legal order from the Supreme Court.

WINNIPEG, CANADA: I think the caretaker government of Pakistan does not understand the mandate and the scope of its responsibilities. Usually, the government that operates in the interim period has the responsibility of holding elections as well as looking after the normal day-to-day affairs of the country. The government’s refusal to facilitate treason cases against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, in my opinion, is not only tantamount to contempt of court, but is also indicative of biased support for the dictator, instigated either internally or externally.

The irony of the situation is the way the administration is looking after the affairs of the country during the pre-election period, which is far from satisfactory. It is regrettable to witness the immaturity of the interim government in dealing with the administration of the country. It seems to be totally ignorant of its job description.

The government should be charged with committing contempt of court and treason proceedings against General (retd) Musharraf should be initiated through a legal order from the Supreme Court. The committee so formed to investigate the matter should take a neutral approach and decide the case on facts.
