MOMBASA, KENYA: This is with the reference to the article, “Law and order in K-P” (April 19) by Dr Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi. In his piece, he has mentioned genuine security concerns and its widespread consequences, not only in the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, but also the impact they will have on future Pakistani politics.
Here, I would like to add two more things; one, that this bad security situation will not remain limited to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa but will spread to other parts of the country, too, as elections come closer. Second, the writer has slightly touched upon the main cause of this situation, when he writes that “If those political parties which have not been threatened by insurgent groups have only a marginal interest in condemning the threats, it becomes a fundamental problem”.
To me, the bone of contention is those parties and their leaders, who seem to have an implicit understanding with these insurgent groups. It is very unfortunate that every one of us knows such groups and their godfathers but no one dares to call spade a spade.
