Need for 3G technology

Letter April 19, 2013
The introduction of 3G services in Pakistan is fast becoming a necessity.

LAHORE: The introduction of 3G services in Pakistan is fast becoming a necessity, to enable a paradigm shift in the telecommunication sector. Telecommunication operators in Pakistan realise this great opportunity and are keen to enter the next level of global telecommunications. It was heartening to note in a recent news report that one of the largest telecom operators in the country has completed the groundwork for enabling 3G service provision in Pakistan. As per the report, the operator has already structured a 3G telecom network in Pakistan and is ready to offer the service as soon as the government provides licences for this purpose to the telecom sector.

I would like to take this opportunity to request the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, on behalf of all Pakistani telecom users, to complete the process and regulatory preparations for the long-awaited auction of 3G licences. This will ensure that Pakistan, too, can then be counted among the select countries of the world who have taken the next progressive step towards utilising the latest mobile technology.
