Musharraf’s escape

Letter April 19, 2013
This is a failure of interim government, caretaker prime minister, interior minister and law-enforcement agencies

WINNIPEG, CANADA: The deputed security guards, the police and interim set-up have committed a deplorable act by not only facilitating the escape of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from the Islamabad High Court after cancellation of his bail in the judges detention case, but have also mocked the law by setting a wrong precedent — one different from that used for former dictators.

General (retd) Musharraf’s lawyers not only criticised the arrest order, but also ridiculed and taunted it by reporting that the culprit had been escorted to his farmhouse and is enjoying coffee and cigars. This person wanted to participate in the elections but failed to prove his loyalty to the law of the land.

This is a failure of the interim government, the caretaker prime minister, the interior minister and the law-enforcement agencies. It may certainly be right to assume that Pakistan is now close to being a banana republic where nothing seems to work normally.
