Don’t law-abiding citizens have the same right to obtain authorised licence plates issued to them within 3 months?
KARACHI: The director of the Excise and Taxation Department has said that the police have every right to detain vehicles that do not have authorised licence plates within three months. If this is the case, then don’t law-abiding, taxpaying citizens have the same right to obtain authorised licence plates issued to them within this time period?
Failure to provide them should give the police every right to detain the Excise and Taxation officer concerned. According to authorised car distributors, the Excise and Taxation Department has failed to do so for vehicles whose taxes were paid back in November 2012, i.e., four months ago. This amounts to deliberately creating an opportunity for policemen on the beat for corruption.
