The fact is that even after the pillion riding ban people in Karachi are still being mugged and killed.
KARACHI: The Sindh government’s latest effort to ostensibly curb rising street crime and killings in Karachi has come in the form of a ban on pillion riding. This ban has been imposed time and again in order to improve the law and order situation but it has never had any effect. The question then arises that why does the Singh government keep using it, and in the process, creating problems for hundreds of thousands of people who use motorcycles every day.
The fact is that even after the pillion riding ban people in Karachi are still being mugged and killed. While it may be true that the majority of street crimes and targeted killings are perpetrated by armed men riding motorcycles, the solution is not an outright ban but rather better intelligence to target the attackers. I would like to ask the authorities why ordinary people are being punished for a problem which should be resolved by better policing and law enforcement.
