KARACHI: A few months ago, I visited an armed forces hospitals and got to know that Air Commodore (retd) Muhammad Mahmood Alam was undergoing treatment there for a serious illness. Ever since then, I have thought about his condition and prayed for his recovery. He was an ethnic Bengali but preferred Pakistan over everything else. He was a true patriot, our hero, a true legend and a lot more.
What hurts is that we could not value our hero in a way that befitted him. We have this inbuilt habit of ignoring the best people and things we have. We tend to forget and neglect those heroes who have fought and died for our country. Governments have come and gone but up to this day, they have neglected the educational value of teaching our youth and people the historical facts about our country. No wonder, we are a confused lot. Despite all this, I am sure there are thousands of people who love and admire him, as I do. Mr Alam will always be remembered by his admirers. I thank him for being a true Pakistani.
