KARACHI: At different locations in Karachi, motorists and motorcycle owners are being fleeced in the name of charged parking. In most places, once you have parked your vehicle, you are given a receipt which says Rs10 per car and Rs5 per motorcycle. However, you are actually asked to pay double this rate and it seems that either KMC or the Cantonment authorities look the other way on this matter. I should add that in some places where there is no parking fee at all, even there motorists are charged.
At the Sunday Bazaar on University Road opposite Safari Park, citizens are made to pay Rs20 for less than one hour of parking and disputes between motorists and parking lot attendants are the norm. At shopping malls, the parking fee per car is as high as Rs30. Why can’t the Karachi city administration take notice of this and order the required action against the charged parking contractors?
