Waiting in line

Letter March 09, 2013
Waiting for one’s turn patiently in an orderly fashion is not something that pays in a country like Pakistan.

BAHRAIN, SWAT: Yesterday, I was at the local branch of a bank in Mingora to submit college admission forms for one of my friends. I had travelled for around two hours from Bahrain to Mingora for this. I reached the bank by 9 am and the line was so long that even after a six-hour wait, my turn didn’t come. I then became desperate and rang up a cousin of mine who is a member of a student federation. He came to my rescue — he took the form from me and went directly inside the office of the manager and managed to get done, all in a total of five minutes!

Clearly, waiting for one’s turn patiently in an orderly fashion is not something that pays in a country like Pakistan.
