KARACHI: The Abbas Town blasts, which left at least 48 dead and many injured are deplorable. The hurt that this tragedy has caused cannot be expressed in words. After listening to and reading the narrations of eyewitnesses and volunteers, I have started wondering why I have been a part of the silent majority since the start of this war. Is this the future of our children? Is it for such a fate that Pakistanis struggle to make ends meet?
I will not vent my pent-up anger and frustration on the government and law enforcement agencies as not only are they not worthy of that but also because the citizenry is equally to be blamed for this state of affairs. Our silence has led the situation to deteriorate. Every single day, Pakistanis die for crimes unknown, while we do not break our fast of silence.
What is more troublesome is the muteness of religious scholars. If such acts are against Islam, then they should vocally condemn the attacks, at least, if not the attackers. Our failure to unite and confront this menace has led this war into our homes. What is taking place in our country right now is not some kind of sectarian or ethnic cleansing; it is the cleansing of Pakistanis.
