Motorway woes

Letter March 06, 2013
The performance of the Motorway Police has deteriorated.

ISLAMABAD: I recently travelled on GT Road and the Motorway from Islamabad to Multan and back. Travelling on GT Road has never been a good experience and that is understandable since one has to travel through small towns and cities. The motorway experience has always been good and I have been impressed by the way the Motorway Police conduct themselves.

However, my recent experience on the Motorway was an eye-opener. The performance of the Motorway Police has deteriorated. While travelling in the evening, I saw many vehicles without functioning tail lights and headlights. Another dangerous aspect that I noticed were people overtaking vehicles from the left side and not turning on their indicators. Over-speeding was rampant; I saw a lot of vehicles racing as if it was a Formula One track. I would advise the Motorway Police to check all cars that enter the Motorway to make sure they have functioning lights and strict fines must be imposed on transgressors since the only way people learn is when it hits their pocket.
