Memorable memorial

Letter September 17, 2010
Resources being spent on the construction of this monument could be utilised for those who have suffered in the flood.

DUBAI: This is in reference to Sami Shah’s article “Memorable memorial” (September 16). It really is a shame that monuments, which aren’t really a priority and aren’t really needed, are being approved in the current situation the country is currently facing. Resources being spent on the construction of this monument could be utilised for those who have suffered in the flood.

The government cannot or perhaps does not want to function in a systematic way. It’s worrying that the government is only taking such a short-term view and not taking long-term considerations into account.
