The thinking man (II)

Letter September 16, 2010
I don’t believe that think-tanks or so-called ‘thinking’ men have disappeared in this country.

RIYADH: This is in reference to the article “Whatever happened to the thinking man?” The very first weapon that governments in Pakistan use to escape from responsibility is to say or rather claim that all of the problems they encounter have been inherited from previous regimes, elected or non-elected. Obviously, it goes without saying that this is no excuse for anything, not least the inability of that government using it as one to not govern effectively. Having said that, I don’t believe that think-tanks or so-called ‘thinking’ men have disappeared in this country. It’s just that those who possess the intellectual calibre to discuss and solve our current problems have never been given a chance to lead from the front and prove their worth.
