Holidays in educational institutions

Letter February 09, 2013
Our students are not sufficiently exposed to the learning environment provided by schools, colleges and universities.

KARACHI: I’ve observed that every other day in Pakistan turns out to be a very important one. We have urs of Sufi saints, death anniversaries of political leaders, religious days, important days related to Pakistan’s history and calls for strikes more than once each month, throughout the year, by different political parties.

As a result of these important days, our educational institutions remain closed for most of the year, not to mention summer and winter vacations, preparation leaves for exams and Sundays. Keeping in view this situation, we can come to the conclusion that our students are not sufficiently exposed to the learning environment provided by schools, colleges and universities. This situation needs to be reversed as soon as possible; otherwise, it will result in a great loss for our students, and in turn, our country and its future.
