Motorbike ban

Letter February 07, 2013
I request the authorities concerned to allow the entry of motorbikes on Ring Road by making a separate lane for them.

LAHORE: I have been riding my motorbike regularly on Lahore Ring Road over the last three months. One day, I was left flabbergasted when I was stopped by a traffic warden on the Nawaz Sharif Interchange and was asked to travel through the service road, for which I would have had to travel almost double the distance which I currently travel. In addition, the service road has barricades along it, which causes the traffic to move extremely slowly, causing problems and even accidents every now and then for motorbikes.

I am extremely disappointed with these meaningless measures. It is a fact that already motorbike riders have to face a lot of problems, such as inhaling the polluted air of Lahore. On top of that, disallowing them from travelling on Ring Road is highly unfair. I request the authorities concerned to allow the entry of motorbikes on Ring Road by making a separate lane for them, on which no fast-moving vehicle should be given permission for travelling.
