It is a pity that the international media has kept mum over the issue of the Rohingyas.
KARACHI: This is with reference to your story ‘Rohingyas flee to an unwelcoming Bangladesh’ (January 29). I want to thank the newspaper for informing readers about the tragedy that has afflicted the Rohingyas. The brave lady from Burma who herself faced brutality and was awarded a Nobel prize for services to humanity said a few months ago that she will not comment on this issue as she does not want to take sides. All the superpowers supported this lady for the sake of democracy and due to these efforts she was finally set free by the Burmese authorities. Now, in her own country, thousands of people are being murdered and no one is raising a voice over these killings. Is this not against the norms of democracy?
It is a pity that the international media has kept mum over the issue of the Rohingyas. When a similar plight was faced by the minority community in Indonesia, quick action was taken by the international community and East Timor emerged on the world map. So, what about the plight of the minority Rohingyas in Burma?
