RAWALPINDI: I am really shocked to learn that the Mianwali district has been included in the proposed South Punjab province without any such demand or consent of the local people and their elected representatives. The same applies to the people of Thal, who would prefer to have a Thal province if given the choice. It is amazing that MPs from other districts of Punjab and other provinces are deciding the fate of the people of Thal. Is this a democracy or a dictatorship?
New provinces should be created either through having a referendum on the issue or through election manifestos of those parties who wish to create new provinces. The people should then decide through their votes whether they want such a development to take place or not.
