JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: It is getting difficult to keep pace with the events happening in Pakistan. All these events appear to be linked to one another, hinting at some sort of a conspiracy taking place: the massacre of over 100 people in Quetta in twin blasts, protestors’ sit-in for four days with 86 dead bodies in sub-zero temperatures, the imposition of governor’s rule in Balochistan, the statement by the chief justice that people are looking to the army for protection, Tahirul Qadri’s Long March, asking for the immediate dismissal of the federal and provincial governments, and now the Supreme Court’s orders to arrest the prime minister on corruption charges.
It seems that the stage is being set for a long-term interim government with the army and the judiciary all set to take the lead role in the proceedings. Perhaps, we will once more miss this once in a lifetime opportunity for an elected government to complete its full term.
