Please return our criminals

Letter January 15, 2013
The main accused in Shahzeb Khan murder case, Shazeb Jatoi, is being protected in the UAE since December 27, 2012.

OTTAWA: The government and the ruling shaikhs of the UAE are often held in high esteem for their ability to maintain the rule of law in their country. This appears to be no longer true. There is evidence that many Pakistani criminals are being actively protected in the UAE. One wonders if in a tightly controlled country, such acts can be committed without the connivance of those in power. The UAE has a history of providing hospitality to our criminal ruling elite and being appallingly unkind to our labourers, who are often treated like slaves and made to live in subhuman conditions.

The main accused in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, Shahrukh Jatoi, is being protected in the UAE since December 27, 2012. This amounts to abetment of crime. The government of the UAE must adhere to the law and hand over the accused to Pakistani authorities. In addition, Tauqeer Sadiq, against whom the National Accountability Bureau has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for embezzlement of Rs82 billion, is also enjoying protection in the UAE. It may be a good time for the UAE to stop protecting Pakistani criminals, who have murdered and looted the ordinary people of Pakistan.
